Card Spending Balances — How it Works

Explains how Kolo card payments use Spending Balances, how to manage their priority order, and how payment conversion works.

With your Kolo Card, you can choose which balances are used for card payments. You can enable, disable, and reorder spending balances directly in the app.

Spending balances are used for card payments after your card is active. They are separate from card activation requirements.

How To Manage Spending Balances

  1. Open the Kolo app

  2. Go to Card details

  3. Tap Spend from

  4. Open Spending balances

You will see:

  • Enabled balances — balances used for card payments

  • Off for now — balances not used for card payments

You can:

  • turn balances on or off

  • reorder enabled balances

Payments use balances in priority order, from top to bottom. The top balance is used first.

How Payments Are Processed

When you make a card payment:

  • the system checks your Enabled balances in order

  • the first balance with enough funds is used

  • if the first balance does not have enough funds, the system may try to use the next one along with previous.

  • if the total available amount across enabled balances is not enough, the payment may be declined.

Disabled balances are not used until you enable them again.

Important Notes

  • Spending balances are configured per profile.

  • Disabled balances are not used until you enable them again.

  • Reordering balances changes the payment priority.

  • The balance you pay from can affect your total fees. If its currency differs from your card's settlement currency, an extra internal conversion applies. See Fees & Pricing for exact fees and an example.

FAQ

Can I use EURC or EURI for card payments?

Yes, you can use EURC or EURI for card payments if the balance is enabled in Spending balances and there are enough funds. However, EURC or EURI are not paid to the merchant directly. When you pay by card, the selected spending balance is converted at the moment of payment.

Can I use BNB for card payments? No. BNB is not a card-spendable asset, so it can't be used for card payments. BNB also can't be swapped directly within the app at the moment. For now, you have two options: top it up using a supported asset, or withdraw the BNB and convert it externally. There is currently no confirmed timeline for when BNB swap functionality may be added. Any updates will be announced by the Kolo team.
