Memo / Tag Requirements for Crypto Deposits

This article explains when a memo, tag, or comment is required for a crypto deposit, why it matters, and what can happen if it is missing or incorrect.

Updated over a month ago

What Is a Memo or Tag?

A memo or tag is an extra deposit identifier used by some blockchain networks in addition to the wallet address.

It helps match the incoming transaction to your Kolo account.

Without the correct memo or tag, the deposit may not be credited automatically.

Which Networks May Require a Memo or Tag?

This is especially important for networks such as:

  • TON

  • Stellar

Other networks may also require an additional identifier depending on the deposit setup shown in the app.

💡 Pro tip: Always check the deposit screen in the Kolo app before sending funds. If a memo, tag, or comment is shown there, it is required.

How to Use the Memo or Tag

Before sending a deposit:

  1. Copy the wallet address exactly as shown

  2. Copy the memo, tag, or comment exactly as shown

  3. Paste both values into your sending wallet or exchange

  4. Double-check the network before confirming the transfer

⚠️ Important: The wallet address alone may not be enough for these networks. If a memo or tag is required, both the address and the memo/tag must be entered correctly.

What Happens If the Memo or Tag Is Missing?

If the memo or tag is missing or incorrect:

  • the deposit may not be credited automatically

  • processing may be delayed

  • manual review may be required

  • in some cases, the transfer may be returned to the sender’s address

  • recovery may not always be possible

⚠️ Important: Deposits sent with an incorrect address, wrong network, or missing required memo/tag may be delayed, rejected, or permanently lost.

How to Check If a Memo Is Required

You can see whether a memo, tag, or comment is required directly on the deposit screen in the Kolo app — If it is shown in the deposit instructions, you must include it exactly as displayed.

FAQ

Can I use the same memo for every deposit?

No. Always use the memo, tag, or comment shown in your current deposit instructions. Do not reuse an old memo unless the app shows the same value again.

What should I do if I forgot to include the memo?

If you sent a deposit without the required memo, tag, or comment, contact support as soon as possible and share the transaction details.

Recovery or return depends on the network, sending platform, and transaction status.

For more information about incorrect deposits, recovery conditions, timelines, and fees, see Wrong Deposit Policy.

I entered the memo, but my deposit still has not arrived. What should I check?

First, make sure:

  • the correct network was used

  • the wallet address matches the one shown in Kolo

  • the memo was entered exactly without changes

  • the transaction is confirmed on the blockchain

If everything looks correct and the deposit still has not been credited, reach out our support.

Can support credit my deposit automatically if I sent it without a memo?

In such cases, support may review the deposit manually and, where possible, arrange a refund according to the applicable recovery policy, fees, and minimum amount requirements.

For more details, see Wrong Deposit Policy.
