Your Kolo Web3 Wallet is designed for direct blockchain access and user-controlled security.
For that reason, it is important to understand how backup and recovery work before you use the wallet to store or send assets.
Why backup matters
Your Web3 wallet is protected by the access method you set up in the app. Long-term access depends on your recovery data.
If you lose access to your device or wallet setup, recovery may only be possible if you still have the correct recovery phrase.
What is used to recover a Web3 wallet?
To recover access to an existing Web3 wallet, you need the wallet’s 24-word recovery phrase.
This is the main backup method for restoring access to your wallet.
It is different from your wallet password or biometric unlock.
Recovery phrase helps restore the wallet
Wallet password protects access inside the app
Biometrics help unlock or confirm actions on your device
When you may need recovery
You may need to recover your Web3 wallet if:
you change or lose your device
you reinstall the app
you remove the wallet and want to restore access later
you can no longer access the wallet through the current setup
In these cases, you may need to import the wallet again using the same 24-word recovery phrase.
How recovery works
If you already have a Web3 wallet and want to restore access to it:
Open the Web3 wallet setup flow in Kolo
Choose Import Existing Web3 Wallet
Enter your 24-word recovery phrase
Complete the setup steps
Set up your wallet access in the app again
After recovery, the wallet keeps its original blockchain address, balances, and on-chain history linked to that address. Importing an existing wallet does not create a new wallet. It restores access to the original one.
How to store your recovery phrase safely
Your recovery phrase should be stored in a secure place that only you can access.
Good practices include:
keeping it private
storing it in a secure offline location
making sure the words stay in the correct order
protecting it from loss, damage, or unauthorized access
Do not share your recovery phrase with anyone.
Kolo support will never ask you to share your recovery phrase.
What happens if you lose your recovery phrase?
If you lose access to your Web3 wallet and no longer have the correct recovery phrase, restoring access may not be possible.
This is one of the biggest differences between a Web3 wallet and a custodial wallet.
Important to know
Before using your Web3 wallet regularly:
make sure your recovery phrase is stored safely
do not rely only on device access
do not share your recovery phrase with anyone
remember that wallet password and biometrics are not the same as wallet recovery
test your understanding of the backup process before storing larger amounts
