Billing Address & Name on Card — What to Enter When Paying Online

When making an online purchase with your Kolo Card, merchants often ask for a billing address and name on card. Here's what to enter.

Updated over a week ago

Name on Card

Personal Cards

Enter the full legal name of the person whose Kolo account the card is linked to.

This should match the name you used during KYC verification — exactly as it appears on your passport or ID document.

Example

Correct?

John Michael Smith

✅ Yes — full legal name

John Smith

✅ Yes — first and last name

J. Smith

⚠️ May work, but not recommended

Johnny Smith

❌ Nickname — may cause issues

💡 Pro tip: If a website has separate "First Name" and "Last Name" fields, enter your first name and last name as they appear in your Kolo profile.

Business Cards

For business cards issued to employees, enter the employee's full legal name — not the company name.

Kolo business cards are issued to individual cardholders within a company. The cardholder name is always the individual person's name, even though the card belongs to the business account.

❌ Do not enter the company name

Billing Address

Enter your current residential address — the physical address where you live or are currently located.

What counts as a billing address?

Your billing address is simply your home address or the address associated with your account. This can be:

  • Your permanent home address

  • Your current residential address (if you've relocated)

  • A temporary address where you're currently staying

For Business Cards

Employees using business cards can enter either:

  • Their personal residential address, or

  • The company's registered office address

Both are generally accepted. If your company has a preferred policy, follow that.

Important Notes

⚠️ Most online merchants do not strictly validate billing addresses. The billing address is primarily used as an additional fraud-prevention signal, not as a hard verification. In most cases, entering your real address will work without issues.

⚠️ Use a real address. While validation is often loose, entering obviously fake or incomplete addresses may trigger a decline.

💡 Pro tip: If you're traveling, you can still use your home address as the billing address. There's no need to update it to your temporary location.

Related Questions

The merchant says my billing address doesn't match. What do I do?

Try entering your address in a slightly different format (e.g., abbreviate "Street" to "St" or remove apartment numbers). If it still fails, try a different format or contact the merchant.

Do I need to set a billing address in the Kolo app?

No. Kolo does not store or require a billing address in the app. You enter the billing address at the time of purchase on the merchant's website.

What if the merchant asks for a ZIP/postal code only?

Enter the ZIP or postal code of your residential address.
